One of the Berliner Philharmoniker’s longest established chamber music ensembles is the Philharmonic Octet, in which five strings and three winds play together. In this concert of the Berlin Phil Series, the ensemble presents Schubert’s enchanting Octet, a little-known piece by the late-Romantic composer Hugo Kaun, and the world premiere of Toshio Hosokawa’s Octet. The horn player of the evening, Stefan Dohr, was the soloist when Hosokawa’s Horn Concerto was premiered by the Philharmoniker.
